If you enjoy singing to a high standard and are interested in better understanding and using your voice, we would love for you to get in touch to learn more about us and our ethos, and to arrange an audition.
Auditions.
The audition process takes three weeks. We ask that you attend all three rehearsals within this period. If you cannot, we may ask you to wait for the next available slot. The process itself is friendly and gives you a chance to meet the members, understand what we’re about, and get some free vocal coaching.
Week 1
Meet the chorus and take part in some singing with zero pressure. Receive a private vocal coaching session with one of our vocal pedagogy experts. We will also provide the current audition song to learn over the next few weeks.
Week 2
Sing the audition song in a ‘quartet’ formation, without any other singers on your part. This takes place away from the wider chorus with just section leaders in attendance. We will be checking accuracy in learning the music and provide some more feedback regarding singing technique, exercises to help you practice, and plenty of encouragement!
Week 3
The final stage is to sing the audition song in the quartet once again. For this stage the Music Team is looking for excellent memorisation of the piece, vocal fidelity, and evidence of you having taken on feedback and worked on your voice across the 3 weeks. If all three are there, you’re in!
Criteria.
We're looking for:
Ability to sing at the chorus standard – including singing freely, efficiently and resonantly with all of your voice, helping you match the chorus sound
Ability to learn complex pieces of music quickly – allowing you to keep up with the ambitious pace our members enjoy
Desire to learn and take on feedback to improve your vocal production and performance – this is a continuous journey that all Meantimers are embarking on together!
Our Music Team will be looking for these qualities across the audition process. Whilst intense, the process is friendly and enjoyable and will give you a taste of what the chorus is about.
